CONCEPT: L’idea di realizzare questo video è nata dopo che ho visto un documentario sugli Hikikomori: in Giappone questi ragazzi vivono e stanno chiusi per anni dentro la loro stanza. I genitori non riescono a farli uscire. Il rischio più grande di cadere in questa forma di isolamento si presenta negli anni tra la scuola media e le superiori. Gli Hikikomori raccontano di avere difficoltà nel presentare il loro corpo agli altri. Per loro la tecnologia, più che un sistema di connessione e socializzazione, diventa l’unico mondo possibile e li porta alla reclusione. La loro forma di esclusione sociale è stata paragonata alla tradizione dell’HARAKIRI, il suicidio che si pratica in Giappone, secondo un antico rituale samurai, dovuto alla perdita dell’onore. Mi ha colpito molto il fatto che questo fenomeno si stia diffondendo anche in Italia, tanto che è stato creato su FB il gruppo “Hikikomori Italia”. Nella stanza del video io sono diventata un robot. Non distinguo più la realtà dall’immaginazione. Ho il visore sul volto per isolarmi dalla realtà. Il brano “The Victory of the Whale” è un inno all’azione di Sea Shepherd per la difesa della vita nei mari: le parole e la voce potente di Camilla Fascina, accompagnata dal canto dei Capodogli, dalla musica del Direttore d’Orchestra Roberto Soldatini -che suona il suo Stradivari di 300 anni- e da Daniele Capuzzo - arrangiatore e pianista- trovano come cornice la partecipazione di Geert Vons, Direttore Artistico Sea Shepherd Global. Il video, girato a Venezia, presso la Galleria dei Cetacei nel Museo di Storia Naturale che ha ospitato la troupe sotto all’enorme scheletro di una balenottera del mediterraneo (Balaenoptera physalus) e di un capodoglio, è fruibile sul canale Youtube di SEA Shepherd Italia al seguente link: #mi2pJV9hFMY e vedrà devoluti i proventi interamente a Sea Shepherd, per il sostegno della campagne in mare. Si è infatti da poco conclusa la Campagna SISO 4 che ha impegnato per 7 mesi nel 2021 due imbarcazioni di Sea Shepherd nel Tirreno, i cui volontari imbarcati hanno recuperato oltre 15,8 km di reti derivanti illegali di tipo “Ferrettara” , veri e propri muri della morte per Capodogli e altre specie marine. Gli sforzi profusi hanno però portato ad un risultato che ripaga ogni fatica: quest’anno infatti – a differenza degli scorsi anni- nessun Capodoglio è morto nel Tirreno a causa di queste reti. “The Victory of the Whale” non è solo una canzone, nasce infatti come un progetto artistico in collaborazione con la London Tattoo Convention, culminato nel libro Victory of the Whale che vede la partecipazione di 70 artisti. We are pleased to celebrate the success of Operation SISO 4 and the Victory of the Sperm Whales in the Tyrrhenian Sea with a live session of the song “The Victory of the Whale”. Thanks to Operation SISO 4, over 15.8 km of illegal “Ferrettara” drift nets in the waters of the South Tyrrhenian were confiscated. These sword nets are lethal to sperm whales and many other marine species. The song The Victory of the Whale is a hymn to Sea Shepherd action and SISO's revenge. The video was shot at the Cetacean Gallery in the Natural History Museum of Venice under the huge skeleton of a Mediterranean whale (Balaenoptera physalus) and a sperm whale. The song was composed by Camilla Fascina and Edoardo Cicchinelli in support of Sea Shepherd. The proceeds from the song will be donated to support campaigns at sea. The video features Geert Vons, Sea Shepherd Global Artistic Director, Orchestra Director Roberto Soldatini, who plays his 300-year-old Stradivarius, Daniele Capuzzo, arranger and pianist. The song includes the voices of sperm whales and sounds of marine mammals sampled from the Watkins Marine Mammals Sound Database, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. The lyrics of the song recalls the epic victory of the giant sperm whale Mocha Dick, crystallized in the pages of Melville as Moby Dick, who sank the Essex whaler in 1820 after whalers harpooned a pod of sperm whales and killed a female specimen. The episode represents a rare moment in history in which Nature's sense of justice prevails over man. "The Victory of the Whale" is not just a song, it was born as an artistic project in collaboration with the London Tattoo Convention, culminating in the book Victory of the Whale which sees the participation of 70 artists.
